Started on October 22, 1981, Dr. (HC) Ir. Ciputra established a company called PT Citra Habitat Indonesia and in 1990 changed its name to PT Ciputra Development, which became known as one of the leading and most diversified property companies in Indonesia. Along with business development, in 1994 the company made an Initial Public Offering on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (at that time still called Jakarta Stock Exchange).

PT Ciputra Development is pioneered by Dr. (HC) Ir. Ciputra and family from a development company of large scale residential and commercial properties. In 1999, its subsidiary, PT Ciputra Surya conducted an Initial Public Offering on the Indonesia Stock Exchange and then PT Ciputra Property in 2007. However, in 2016, PT Ciputra Surya Tbk re-merged with Induk, PT Ciputra Development.
